This bowl is stained walnut and finished with dewaxed shellac.
Cardinal Inlaid Platter #279

This 12 inch platter has a cardinal sitting on a bare twig inlay made of calcite. The inlay process is the same I used on piece #258 – Magnolia with Calcite Inlay.
Here is the carved out design. 
Next I painted the bottom of the carved out part the appropriate color. 
Placing the dyed calcite comes next.
After gluing, sanding and polishing the inlay is complete.

Because I wanted to leave as much bark on this piece as possible, I had to carve out the center on the lathe first and then I had to hand carve out the rest.
