This Calcite humming bird on holly is quite stunning. The humming bird was cut into the holly 1/4 inch deep with a high speed dental drill, using a very small carbide cutting bit. The calcite mineral colors were very carefully selected to match nature’s true colors. The completed piece was polished using Tripoli and white diamond paste on a high speed polishing buffer. It was then sealed with lacquer and polished again.
This beautiful, large salad bowl was the hit of my last two shows. Everyone oohed and aahed this work of functional art. The multicolored calcite inlay accentuated the spalted lines of the hackberry. I think I might just keep this piece for myself. It’s my favorite piece – for now.
This urn will hold up to 72 cubic inches of cremains ash, ( 72 pounds precremation weight)
